Our story

SIS was founded in 1996 by the late Peter Scott, when he started Scott Investigative Services, now trading as Specialist Investigative Services.

Prior to establishing the company, Peter served 28 years with New Zealand Police, retiring as a Detective Senior Sergeant with an extensive career in the Criminal Investigation Branch.

Peter ran Scott Investigative Services for more than 20 years, undertaking a range of private investigation services.

The SIS Directors are committed to carrying the company forward, with the same strong values and ethics instilled and displayed by Peter Scott since 1996. 

Sean Scott
Sean Scott – Managing Director & Licensed Private Investigator

Sean Scott obtained his Private Investigator accreditation in 1998 and began his career with BF Traders in the Hutt Valley, later contracting to Advance Consulting Group as their sole Wellington agent.

With decades of experience, Sean has conducted a wide range of investigations and specializes in:

  • Insurance investigations
  • Surveillance and covert operations
  • Policy reviews and development in Health & Safety
  • Document services
  • Employment dispute investigations
  • Retail risk management

Sean holds NZQA Health & Safety accreditation and has extensive experience across the automotive and construction industries, where he has forged a strong reputation in management and investigative excellence.

As Managing Director of SIS, Sean leads a team committed to delivering professional, confidential, and effective investigative services.

Wayne Hassell - Senior Investigator

Wayne Hassell brings over 22 years of distinguished service with the New Zealand Police, performing constabulary duties across Horowhenua, Kapiti, and Wellington. His tenure included advanced investigative and interview work with the Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) in Levin and Kapiti.

After leaving the Police in 2013, Wayne transitioned into the private sector, where he:

Worked as a Health & Safety Investigator for a leading civil construction company, applying his investigative expertise to workplace compliance and risk management.

Built a diverse portfolio in security training, business management, and Health & Safety leadership across commercial environments.
